Mercat de les Flors is a public consortium created by the City of Barcelona and the Government of Catalonia, with support from the Ministry of Culture. It is a key venue for all artistic disciplines related to movement, primarily dance but also visual and physical theatre, as well as circus arts, hosting both national and international companies.

Mercat de les Flors supports and promotes new initiatives to strengthen artistic creativity and provide international exposure for artists. Its diverse programme showcases different stages of the creative process and welcomes international and local companies, as well as emerging choreographers pushing creative boundaries on the global stage.

Centre for Circus and Street Arts

Latitude 50 is a centre for circus and street arts located in Marchin, Belgium. Each year, it hosts around fifteen performances, co-organises the Les Unes Fois d’un Soir street arts festival in Huy, and provides residency space for around sixty companies developing new creations. Every season, around 400 artists come to work on their shows.

Situated in a rural area and enriched by numerous partnerships, Latitude 50 plays a key role in both the creation and distribution of performances, making it a hub of creativity, imagination, and exchange.

Since 2018, Latitude 50 has been officially recognised as a scenic centre by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, acknowledging both its public outreach efforts and its support for professionals in the sector.

Circus and itinerant arts factory

La Grainerie is a circus and itinerant arts factory dedicated to the development of the circus field and the support of its stakeholders. It is a place where resources are offered to creators, technicians and administrators among which training, creation, diffusion, manufacturing, and storage spaces as well as offices.

La Grainerie is also a place for social cohesion based on solidarity to favor encounters between artists and inhabitants.

The main activities carried out are:

  • Rehearsal and training for circus artists
  • An artistic and production support to emerging artists (with Studio-PACT, the Circus Arts Incubator of Toulouse)
  • The development of cross-border and international projects: training for artists and operators, research’s workshops and laboratories, support for dissemination and production
  • Artistic and cultural education
  • A metropolitan circus arts season

La Central del Circ is a creation center which provides to circus artists resources for creation, training, and continuous education. Its mission is to support circus arts and to accompany artistic projects from everyday training to creation’s residencies, support in management and production as well as dissemination and international mobility.

It is part of Creation Factories’ network of the Barcelona Institute of Culture. 

Its objectives are:

  • To offer creation’s facilities, to train and create in appropriate conditions
  • To be a place where artists can experiment with ideas and contents
  • To encourage creators to enhance and develop their work through continuous education
  • To promote shared knowledge and openness for any disciplines, background, generations, trends and aesthetics
  • To become a diffusion platform for companies and artists by connecting connect them with other territories and national and international networks
  • To develop new audiences

Kulturzentrum Tollhaus Karlsruhe

Tollhaus Karlsruhe was founded in 1982 by Bernd Belschner and Britta Vehagen as a socio-cultural centre. From its beginnings as a small stage in a former slaughterhouse, the centre has grown into a multidisciplinary venue hosting music concerts, dance performances, theatre, comedy, and circus shows.

Alongside its annual programme, Tollhaus organises three festivals: Zestival (music concerts), the street theatre festival Platz da!, and the contemporary circus festival ATOLL. Additionally, Tollhaus co-produces circus creations throughout the year and runs workshops, forums, and exhibitions on a variety of themes, including culture, politics, and social issues.

Tollhaus’ programme and activities attract over 150,000 visitors per year. The organisation is an active member of national and international networks such as LAKS Baden-Württemberg, Creole, Initiative Neuer Zirkus Deutschland, and Circostrada.

Based in Saarbrücken, PERSPECTIVES is the only Franco-German, binational, and cross-border festival entirely dedicated to the performing arts.

Over the course of ten days, artists from French- and German-speaking regions perform in around a dozen different venues across Germany and France. Contemporary theatre, dance, circus, street and puppet theatre, music—each year, PERSPECTIVES provides a true platform for both internationally renowned artists and emerging talents.

Festival Circolo

The Circolo Festival is a major contemporary circus festival in the Netherlands, offering audiences a diverse programme that includes both family-friendly shows and experimental performances. The festival provides a platform for emerging Dutch talents as well as international companies.

Every two years in autumn, Circolo’s big tops take over Spoorpark in Tilburg. For ten days, audiences are invited to experience both short and full-length performances, staged under grand marquees or in more intimate spaces. The festival also features workshops, activities for children, and attractions from the world of fairground arts.

Since 2023, Circolo has partnered with Buro Piket to open and refurbish a former chapel into a dedicated residency space with specialised facilities for circus artists. The Cirkus Kapel is located in ’s-Hertogenbosch.

Cirkusfera

Cirkusfera is the key organization for the development of contemporary circus and street arts in Serbia. It brings together multidisciplinary artists who work for the acknowledgement of these arts across the country. 

In order to develop contemporary circus, they advocate through performances, lectures and public events, trying to make this art more accessible to the general public and cultural policy makers. Through workshops and projects, they promote circus arts’ education. 

Through international cooperation, co-production and exchange of knowledge, skills and experience, Cirkusfera makes a base for professional development and provides the conditions for the recognition of contemporary circus arts in South East Europe. 

Among the various projects carried out, Cirkusfera is one of the co-organisers of Cirkobalkana festival.

Cirkorama is a collective of artists dedicated to promoting the development of contemporary circus in Croatia. Their work spans several areas, including education, production, and performances diffusion. They create a diverse range of shows, both site-specific and in traditional performance spaces.

Cirkorama also serves as a community of artists actively engaged in social events and solidarity initiatives through their skills and projects. They support socio-cultural initiatives that foster inclusion through the arts.

In collaboration with Cirkusfera (Serbia), Cirkorama co-organises the travelling festival Cirkobalkana.

Since 2002, Cirko – Center for New Circus has been working to promote and develop contemporary Finnish circus. 

In 2011, the Cirko circus building opened in Helsinki’s Suvilahti – 1,400 square metres of office and performance space, custom made for contemporary circus. 

Cirko offers the public high quality and interesting contemporary circus, the performances attract over 10, 000 visitors a year. Cirko provides circus professional with first-class working environment, around 20 professional groups practice at Cirko’s rehearsal spaces each year. Cirko centre runs a year around residency programme which encourages and helps emerging and young circus artist to develop new contemporary circus works. Cirko conducts the Nordic region’s largest annual festival of contemporary circus called Cirko Festival in May, which works as a platform for Finnish contemporary circus showcases. 

Cirko is internationally active in the field of contemporary circus through various networks.
