Astrat – Disabilities & Creativity

For spring 2026, circusnext and the Association Les Jours Heureux will host artist Carlo Cerato for a three-week residency within residential care homes for people with disabilities in Paris.

Astrat – Disabilities & Creativity brings together Italian juggler Carlo Cerato (circusnext 2021 Laureate with Edo Cirque) and the residents of the Jean Faveris Medicalised Care Home and the Kellermann Care Home, two specialised facilities run by the Association Les Jours Heureux and located in the 13th arrondissement of Paris.

In a social context where stereotypical representations of disability remain widespread, this project seeks to create a dialogue through objects, while valuing and highlighting the modes of expression of people with disabilities.

From 13 to 17 April, alternating between creative time and collective juggling workshops, the artist and the residents will share a first week of residency centred on a singular artistic creation process. Here, bodies, sensibilities and imaginaries that are rarely present within conventional creative circuits become driving forces for expression and research. Two further weeks of immersion will take place in May 2026.

The outcomes of the Astrat – Disabilities & Creativity project will be presented at partner venues during the 2026–2027 season.

As part of the L’Art d’être ensemble* programme run by the Ville de Paris.

PHiLOCiRQUE : Leap into the world of ideas

From June 24 to 28, 50 second-grade students from the Public Elementary School 12-14 Alésia participated in a workshop combining circus and philosophy.

Through playful activities ranging from discussion circles to physical experiments, participants were encouraged to see the world around them from a fresh perspective. Guided by tightrope walker Eleonora Gimenez and philosopher Diego Vernazza, they explored circus basics—balance, object manipulation, acrobatics—and intertwined them with children’s philosophy—group reflection, personal inquiry, self-expression— for a week full of poetry.

A comprehensive exploration, from head to toe, of body and mind, reality and existence, self and identity, and the dynamics of individuals and groups.

A look back at the “Matières” project in Japan

The Matières project, a research laboratory organized by circusnext and Setouchi Circus Factory, was held in Japan from July 18 to August 1.
A look back at the "Matières" project in Japan circusnext - European Circus Label

circusnext regularly offers a research laboratory beyond the borders of Europe. The aim is to give French artists the opportunity to meet artists from other parts of the world, through exchanges of experience, master-classes, research and experimentation…

The Matières project, a research laboratory organized by circusnext and Setouchi Circus Factory, took place in Japan from July 18 to August 1.

Inbal Ben Haim (Laureate 2021) and Domitille Martin exchanged ideas and experimented with Japanese circus artists on the use of paper in the circus, and particularly washi paper. The Lab took place in several Japanese cities, from Mitoyo to Tokyo, via Marugame. On the program: body and material work in dedicated spaces, a visit of a washi factory, sharing experiences with the local audience…

“One of the most touching process I saw as a teacher. The magic grows when circus and washi paper meet, when a group of people jump in full confidence and generosity into the most crazy ideas that you have, when the great dreamer Michiko Tanaka (director of Setouchi Circus Factory) is knitting a reality where everything can happen, and when the amazing team of circusnext follows all the way.”

This Lab concluded with a final presentation at the French Institute of Tokyo.

Supported by Institut Français.

A look back: circusnext invites Carlo Cerato for a juggling workshop in Paris

A few days ago, circusnext organized a juggling workshop at the Paris Anim Angel Parra center!

It was the opportunity for around 15 teenagers, mostly hearing-impaired young people from the Center Augustin Grosselin – Léopold Bellan, to collectively discover juggling with Carlo Cerato (circusnext 2021 Laureate with EDO Cirque) during a enriching and convivial week.

In partnership with Casdal 14.
