Carlos Landaeta Meneses (Belgium) · Blood Flow Reading Club · Chinese Pole

Books are scattered around a person with numb limbs, all available to be read. Confronted with this injured body, the audience is invited to interact with these committed texts: step onto the stage, pick up a book, read it aloud. A body will be there to hold the microphone — just for you. Blood Flow Reading Club offers this unique experience, letting the voices of those who have written in support of marginalised communities be carried through you. By probing the limits of the body, the performance encourages spectators to confront acts of violence and the voices that have been silenced. Here, it is the subaltern who will be heard.

Based in Brussels, Carlos Landaeta Meneses was born in Caracas, Venezuela — a beautiful, yet violent place that taught him/her many lessons. A place where compassion and empathy are not just daily practices, but vital necessities.

Carlos is always eager to learn new things: dance, languages, clowning, martial arts, and anything else that might prove useful, or useless.

In France, he/she trained at the Centre régional des arts du cirque de Chambéry, before earning a circus degree in Brussels and working with various circus companies. Today, Carlos focuses on circus pedagogy, artistic research laboratories, and leading workshops exploring decoloniality and power dynamics.

Carlos loves colours between burgundy and magenta. And most of the time, he/she is wary of people who claim that “everything is always fine.”

T.O.A (2026 Finalists) at L’Espace Périphérique, Paris

From 13 to 22 April, circusnext welcomes T.O.A at L’Espace Périphérique (Paris) for a 10-day residency. Join us on 20 April at 17:00 to discover Corvus Obscura during a work-in-progress presentation.

T.O.A · Petra Najman, Ivan Svaguša (Croatia) · Corvus Obscura · Static trapeze

Corvus Obscura is a contemporary circus research exploring the space in between, spatial planes and perspective. It weaves together physical movement, trapeze, spatial-sequential live drawing, mat manipulation, Butoh, and experimental music.

The research is rooted in the idea of metaphysical harmony and the path that precedes it. It investigates the relationship between darkness and light, height and ground, disharmony and harmony, the micro and the macro, the visible and the inner world.

The intention is to distil the stage into a minimal and clear performance space, and to bring it to life through the spatial projection of drawings, achromatically rendered in real time onto dark surfaces, offering a new perspective on what is seen, through imagined phantasmagoric scenes.

Temple O.A. is made up of two creators: Petra Najman & Ivan Svaguša. Petra is a performing and trapeze artist trained in France and Italy, working in contemporary circus, physical theatre, and Butoh. She is the author of the play My Death and Me.

Ivan is an interdisciplinary artist and educator, primarily an academic painter, whose practice spans painting, illustration, street art, comics, animation, music, and performance. His work merges visual, sound, and performing arts into a unified whole.

Together, they created the interdisciplinary play Crow Without a Nest, which includes a picture book and exhibition, set to premiere in 2025. From this work, the new project Corvus Obscura has emerged, and is currently in development. They experiment with direction, choreography, dramaturgy, visual design, and sound.

A radio blasts a Sleaford Mods song, a desk smokes, notebooks pile up; he moves so fast he becomes a blur. He just keeps accelerating.
