2nd Lab of 2023: it was this September in Genoa (Italy)

The 2nd Lab circusnext of the year brought together 6 pre-selected artists 2024 at our friends’ Sarabanda association.

Brainstorming, creations, discussions, inspiring visits of Genoa… 6 artists preselected for 2024 gathered for 10 days in the magnificent TIQU theater, the venue chosen by Sarabanda to host this Lab. The participants worked on their creations under the guidance of researcher Marion Guyez, this Lab’s mentor.

Co-funded by the European Union, City of Paris & Institut Français.

A look back at the “Matières” project in Japan

The Matières project, a research laboratory organized by circusnext and Setouchi Circus Factory, was held in Japan from July 18 to August 1.

circusnext regularly offers a research laboratory beyond the borders of Europe. The aim is to give French artists the opportunity to meet artists from other parts of the world, through exchanges of experience, master-classes, research and experimentation…

The Matières project, a research laboratory organized by circusnext and Setouchi Circus Factory, took place in Japan from July 18 to August 1.

Inbal Ben Haim (Laureate 2021) and Domitille Martin exchanged ideas and experimented with Japanese circus artists on the use of paper in the circus, and particularly washi paper. The Lab took place in several Japanese cities, from Mitoyo to Tokyo, via Marugame. On the program: body and material work in dedicated spaces, a visit of a washi factory, sharing experiences with the local audience…

The magic grows when circus and washi paper meet, when a group of people jump in full confidence and generosity into the most crazy ideas that you have, when the great dreamer Michiko Tanaka (director of Setouchi Circus Factory) is knitting a reality where everything can happen, and when the amazing team of circusnext follows all the way.”

This Lab concluded with a final presentation at the French Institute of Tokyo.

Upcoming circusnext Revelations will take place in Paris on June 5 & 6, 2024.

The four Laureates projects will be presented to the public at the Théâtre de la Cité internationale in Paris.

Save the date! Join us in Paris on June 5 & 6, 2024 to discover the circusnext Laureates projects 2024.

The selection process to choose the 2024 Laureates has been underway since January, and 35 projects have been pre-selected. The 12 finalist companies will be chosen in November by circusnext Platform members during the European Selection of Finalists.

From May 12 to 18 2024, the finalist companies will present their creations to the circusnext artistic jury. They will select the 4 Laureate 2024 to be presented on stage at the circusnext Revelations 2024.

The 1st Lab of 2023 just started at Cirkorama!

A dozen young artists from circusnext 2024 pre-selected projects have gathered at Cirkorama in Croatia. They are working on the writing of their projects, under the guidance of Darragh McLoughlin (circusnext 2014 Laureate).

The Labs are one of the main supports offered each year by circusnext to the pre-selected authors. 8 or 9 authors are gathered for 10 days to work on the writing of their project, under the mentorship of an experienced artist.

Having already mentored a Lab in Paris last year, artist Darragh McLoughlin is back again this year at Cirkorama. Darragh studied at the Jonglier Katakomben, then at the Académie des Arts du Cirque et de la Performance (ACAPA). He has created 3 solo shows: FOAM in 2014, The Whistle in 2015 & Stickman in 2019. He is a circusnext Laureate 2014.

The main goal of the Labs is to work collectively on each other’s project with a focus on circus writings and dramaturgy. It is also an opportunity for the authors to meet other artists and professionals, as each Lab takes place at the venue of a circusnext Platform member.

A look back: company Barks presents “Moon” in Paris

After the gardens of the Sainte-Anne hospital in 2022, circusnext now invites the Barks company to perform their creation Moon – cabinet de curiosités lunaires in a Parisian schoolyard.

Discover the images of the suspended performance by Barks company-Bastien Dausse (associated artist with circusnext) in early July in the courtyard of Boulard elementary school (Paris 14th).

The pre-selected projects circusnext 2024 are here!

The 11 national preselection committees took place from May to July 2023. Among the 120 applications received this year, 35 projects lead by 56 authors were preselected.

We would particularly like to thank the authors who applied to this year’s edition for the quality and richness of their projects.

These artists will have the opportunity to benefit from an artistic collective laboratory dedicated to their projects at one of our European partners’ venues. Their projects will then be examined during the European Selection of Finalists in November 2023.
